Rachel Barnes in Region Player of the Year
03/11/2010

Rachel Barnes and Megan Lassley better clear some space in their Seward County dorm rooms because the awards keep on coming for the pair as Wednesday the duo was named to the NJCAA All-Region VI Team one day after being named to the Region VI All-Tournament team in Wichita. Barnes not only earned 1st Team All-Region accolades but was named the Region VI Player of the Year ahead of Labette’s Satoria Bell, making her a strong candidate for a spot on the All-American team.

The Lady Saint forward had a magical season for Seward, averaging nearly 30 points per game in Seward’s last 10 contests including a school record 41 point performance in the Region VI semi-finals against Cowley. She finished the year averaging nearly 22 points and 8 rebounds per game and was less than 1 point per game away from leading the country in scoring during her sophomore season. Lassley was named 2nd Team All-Region after leading the Jayhawk West in assists for the second straight season while averaging just under 10 points per game on the year.
