Newman Takes Final Game of Series on Goodwell
04/08/2013

oodwell, Okla.-The Newman University Jets left the baseball diamond with a
9-1 win against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies Saturday
afternoon in the third game of the series.

The Aggies earned their first Heartland Conference win Friday afternoon
against Newman in a decisive 8-1 victory, and then lost the second one 1-0
to set up what fans hoped would an exciting third game. OPSU faced trouble
against Anthony Gonzales, Newman's starting pitcher who threw seven innings,
scattering three hits and striking out four. In the fifth inning, lead-off
Ruben Aguirre sent a ball over the left field fence for a solo Aggie
homerun. Freezy Smalls started on the mound for OPSU and was credited with
the loss.

Nationally ranked St. Mary's University visits Goodwell for a three-game
series April 12-13.
