Board of Education and Stout Still Negotiating
02/10/2010

Lance Stout

The USD 480 Board of Education announced on January 18 that current Deputy Superintendent Lance Stout will be the next Superintendent when Vernon Welch retires at the end of this school year. The Board and Stout hoped to have a finalized contract to be approved for Monday's regularly scheduled meeting, but due to some other items coming up including possible restructuring at South Middle School the board did not vote on a contract yet for Stout. The board has agreed to a two year deal for Stout, but details of the contract have not been finalized or officially voted on yet. It is also unknown who will take Stout's place as Deputy Superintendent.

During Monday's meeting the board approved the consent agenda which included the waiver of building rental fee for four different organizations, an overnight trip for Liberal High School Quiz Bowl, and a gift from an anonymous donor for $160,000 for the following purposes:

AVID $50,000

Capturing Kids Hearts $50,000

LHS Scholarships $30,000

AP Testing $30,000

The board also approved the following action items at the meeting: the purchasing of 30 laptops and 425 desktop computers, and the purchasing of 4 IBM Blade Servers. Both of these items came out of the Technology budget according to Business Director Jerry Clay. Technology Director Terry Adams was asked by the board if these items were absolutely necessary and Adams felt that they were.

The board also approved certified employment, and classified employment/resignations/transfers.

The board of education will next meet on Monday, February 22.
