Collegiate Baseball Magazine Names Three Saints

Collegiate Baseball Magazine has named three Seward

County Saints baseball players some of the best in the country in their

recent college preview issue. Shortstop Kelby Tomlinson who has

committed early to play at Texas Tech University next season was named

one of the top 25 shortstops in the NJCAA after impressing many this

fall with his glove work, speed, and hitting with his 6'3 frame.

Tomlinson was the fastest player to run at the Jayhawk Conference

Showcase for all sophomores in the league and is widely considered one

of the top players in the region for the upcoming season. Last season

Tomlinson was the Saints top utility man as he hit .275 with 15 runs

driven in and showed a good eye at the plate as the only Saint to walk

more than he struck out. Outfielder Luke Campbell was tabbed one of the

top 35 outfielders in the nation after slugging a team best 11 home runs

and 57 RBI's last season. The Arvada, Colorado native also led the team

with 16 doubles on the year and was second on the team with a 1.106 OPS.

While he had an All-Conference freshman season, Campbell has come back

even stronger this season and should be one of the top power hitters in

the region. Saints righty Jared Wagner was also named in the report as

one of the top 50 right handed pitchers in the nation after a solid fall

campaign for Seward and a freshman season last year where he went 3-0

with 1 save. Wagner was the Saints top man out of the bullpen late last

year as he struck out 12 in 19 1/3 innings of work. The trio and the

rest of their Saint teammates open their season next Saturday at home

against Northeastern JC in a rematch of last year's season opening

series in which the Saints won 3 out of 4 games.
