Both Hutch Blue Dragon Teams Victorious In Region 6
03/10/2013

Hutchinson won a second straight Region 6 women's crown - earned Saturday with a 70-46 victory over Cowley College at Hartman Arena -

Hutchinson didn't just win on Saturday. It dominated the Tigers.

Over the final 15 minutes, it turned a 34-34 deadlock into a 24-point victory that put an exclamation point on a 33-1 season. They did so by limiting the Tigers to just three field goals over that span.

The Tigers hit on just 12 of 49 shots from the field (24.5 percent), including a lot of point-blank misses in the early going.

The Hutchinson Community College men are coming home.

The drought is over for the Blue Dragons. For the first time since 1997, the home team is coming to the Sports Arena to play in the NJCAA Tournament.

Forget the at-large bid possibilities. Hutchinson is the Region 6 champion, and the Blue Dragons did it without a smidgen of drama, routing Barton 74-57 on Saturday at Hartman Arena.

The sizeable Blue Dragon crowd was treated to another outstanding performance. A day after dismantling Jayhawk East champion and second-ranked Coffeyville by 23 points, the Jayhawk West runner-up Blue Dragons shot 50 percent, held Barton to 37.1 percent and out rebounded the Cougars 42-35.
