Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service has released a mostly upbeat assessment of the state's winter wheat crop.
The agency on Monday rated winter wheat condition as 8% excellent and 48% good. Another 33% of the crop was in fair condition. It estimated 11% was in poor to very poor shape.
The agency also said about 71% of the winter wheat showed no freeze damage whatsoever. About 22% suffered light damage and 5% showed moderate damage. Just 2% of the crop suffered severe freeze damage.
