A Dodge City Dud
01/25/2010

With division one coaches including K-State's Frank Martin and Wichita State's Gregg Marshall in attendance, it was Dodge City and not Seward who turned in an impressive peformance Sunday at the Dodge City Civic Center. The Conqs (16-5, 4-3) handed the Saints their first loss since Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 28 at Texas Western) 88-75 Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps eighteenth ranked Seward's nine game winning streak. Seward's defense was only a theory Sunday as the Conqs hit 62 percent of their shots and 15-19 (79 percent) in the second half. Marky Nolen scored 20 and Jon Tassin added 19 but the Saints had no answer for Dodge City forward Chuck Coley who scored 27 and point guard Bruce Massey who poured in 26. Seward head coach Bryan Zollinger says Dodge City and not the Saints turned some heads. "We stunk up the gym in every phase of the game," Zollinger said after Dodge snapped Seward's four game winning streak against DC3. "Dodge deserved to win. There were like six division one coaches here to watch our guys. If I were them I would recruit the guys from Dodge and not ours." The Saints fall to 5-1 in the Jayhawk West and 16-4 overall. Seward hosts defending Region 6 champion Garden City Wednesday night at 8 PM in the Green House on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
