A Lakin man had to be taken to the hospital after a chain-reaction crash at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Highway 50/83 Junction north of Garden City.
Ricardo E. Zubia-Uribe, 27, Liberal, was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon east on U.S. 50, approaching the intersection.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Zubia-Uribe failed to stop and struck another vehicle driven by Douglas C. Ourada, 37, Lakin.
Ourada's 1999 GMC truck then hit a 2001 Dodge truck driven by Elaine Singiser, 25, of Garden City, whose vehicle then struck a 2010 Toyota driven by Christopher Smith, 49, of Overland Park. Smith's vehicle hit a fifth vehicle, a 1994 Toyota Camry driven by Phimpha Sengmany, 50, of Garden City.
Sengmany, Smith, Singiser and Ourada were wearing seat belts, according to the KHP, and it is unknown if Zubia-Uribe was wearing a seat belt.
Ourada was the only person who was taken to the hospital, and he was treated and released from St. Catherine Hospital.
