Liberal High School Basketball Teams Honored at End of Year Banquet

The Liberal High School boys and girls basketball teams hosted their end of the year banquet in the cafeteria of Liberal High School Tuesday night. The event was open to the public. Both teams qualified for state and were honored in front of players, coaches, parents, and fans.

Hannah Rotolo received the top award for the Liberal Lady Redskins who finished 21-2 on their season. Rotolo was awarded the WAC Player of the year. This gives Rotolo first team's honors in the conference all four years of her high school career. Rotolo also won the assists award and the steals award which were both team awards. Kiara Cohens was also named to the first team All-WAC. Cohens also won the Leading Scorer Award. MaKayla McPhail was the third Lady Redskin named to the first team All-WAC. McPhail like Rotolo was first team all four years of her playing career. McPhail also was awarded the Leading Rebounding Award. Team manager Kim Fuller also gave out some fun individual awards. The Extreme Makeover Award went to Brianna Lucero. The Swiping No Swiping Award went to Hannah Rotolo. The No Place Like Home Award went to Kiara Cohens. The Braveheart award went to Tameka Sanchez, and the Primo Ballerina Award went to MaKayla McPhail. Sanchez and LaTonya Gooden were also named to All- WAC Honorable Mention.

The Liberal Redskins boys basketball team finished 17-6 on their season. Kevin Livingston won the top award of the night learning that he was named the WAC Player of the Year. Livingston also won the Outstanding Offensive Award. Alex Gilmore was also named to the All-WAC first team. Gilmore also was awarded for being named a McDonalds All-American Nominee and was given the team Leadership Award. Sophomore Jade Cathey was also named to the All-WAC first team. The Skins' had Eric Brown and Berakah Carter named to the All-WAC Honorable mention. The Outstanding Defensive Award went to Justin Morgan. Scott Gilmore was also recognized for helping coach the boys in the summers ever since they were in third grade. Scott and his wife Jennifer put together a video with music and pictures from over the years that was played on a big screen for the banquet.
