Kansas Launches Cash For Appliances

The Kansas Housing Resource Corporation has launched its appliance rebate program. The program is aimed to replace people's old appliances with new energy star rated appliances.

"The goal of the program is to help those who are income eligible, reduce their monthly utility bill by purchasing new energy efficient appliances," said Catherine Couch, with the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.

To be eligible for the Kansas appliance rebate, your appliance must be at least ten years old and you must also meet the income requirements. For example, if you are the only person living in your household you cannot make more than $27,247 a year to qualify.

"This is for lower income families," said Couch.

The program will continue as long as the funding lasts. Couch said Tuesday was the first day to submit an application, and they were swamped with phone calls and emails. The expect the funds will go quickly.

To apply for the program you must fill out an application. If it is approved the state will then send you a voucher, and you can take that to a local vendor.
