The Kansas Supreme Court has granted a
request for a temporary stay from a western Kansas newspaper
reporter who has been ordered to testify at an inquisition.
Dodge City Globe reporter Claire O'Brien was scheduled to appear
before an inquisition in Ford County on Wednesday. Prosecutors are
trying to force her to reveal the name of a confidential source and
information from her unpublished notes.
But the state Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the newspaper's
request for a temporary emergency stay of enforcement of the
inquisition subpoena. The court's order said the stay would be in
effect until the court orders otherwise.
O'Brien interviewed a Dodge City man charged with second-degree
murder and attempted murder for a pair of Labor Day shootings.
Prosecutors issued a subpoena seeking information from O'Brien
related to the shootings.
