Saints Survive Scare in Pratt
01/14/2010

Pratt's start couldn't have been better and Seward's start could not have been worse. The Beavers hit eight of their first 10 three pointers and built leads of 13-0 and 32-13. The 23rd ranked Saints didn't score during the first 5:30 of the game. The Saints trailed 42-32 at halftime but rallied to win 76-72 at Pratt Wednesday night. Tony Smith scored 18 points, dished nine assists, and grabbed nine rebounds with Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel in attendance. Oklahoma State's Travis Ford came to Liberal to talk with Smith at practice earlier this week. Marcus James added 15 points including the deciding free throws. Marky Nolen and Latiq Agard added 13 a piece. Jon Tassin added 10 including two key three pointers during the closing minutes. The 13-3 Saints are the only 3-0 team in the Jayhawk West and win their seventh in a row. They host Cloud Saturday night at 8 PM on B107.5 and kscbnews.net. Seward head coach Bryan Zollinger says the Saints have to be ready to get everyone's best shot. "We're picked number one in the league and we're on a seven game winning streak now and everyone is going to give us their best shot," Zollinger said. "For some teams, even teams who are not having a good year, beating a team who is the first place team in the conference can be a rallying point that can save their season." Zollinger is 68-18 as Seward's head coach and has won four of five over the Beavers. Pratt falls to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk West.
