Carjacking Suspects At Large

On Sunday, January 10, at about 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of South Virginia for a reported car-jacking. Responding officers located the victim, a 34 year old male, at the 500 block of East Oak with two passersby. The victim was found on the ground because he is a paraplegic and he was without his wheelchair.

The victim told investigating officers that he was at the taco stand in the 400 block of South Kansas Avenue about an hour earlier. Two Hispanic males, with bandanas covering their faces got out of a large black SUV and got into his red, 2001 Chevy Blazer. The men ordered him to drive while they held him at gunpoint. The victim was directed to a field in the 500 block of East Oak where the men pushed him out of the vehicle and drove away. The victim had to crawl back through the field to the roadway to summon help.

The suspects were described as Hispanic males in their early 20’s. One of the men was wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans with a white and black bandana covering his face. Both were said to have smaller frames.

The victim’s Blazer has not been recovered. It is a red, 2001 Chevy Blazer with Kansas handicap plate 5633. There is an advertisement of www.elconde.com on the back window in white lettering.

The Liberal Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance to solve this crime. Anyone with information concerning this incident is encouraged to call the Liberal Police Department at 626-0150 or the Crime Hotline at 624-4000. Persons providing information leading to the arrest of those responsible are eligible for a cash reward up to $1000.00.
