Law enforcement agencies throughout southwest Kansas spent Wednesday searching for a man who escaped from the Kearny County Jail back in October.
Mitchell Ebihara was first spotted on Sunday after Finney County sheriff’s deputies received a tip that he was staying at a mobile home just south of town. But as soon as they got to the house Ebihara bolted out the back door. He was then seen at different homes on Monday and Tuesday night, but again left before authorities could capture him.
Wednesday, the search continued near the area of the Arkansas Riverbed. Officials say there’s only one way Ebihara could have evaded law enforcement for so long.
A mile-long perimeter was set up southeast of town with barricades and officers posted at just about every block in between. Several different agencies searched in the bitter cold for the escapee on foot using ATV’s and K-9’s. Homes and other buildings were also searched.
Officials say they have no idea why Ebihara is still in Garden City months after escaping. He is still considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
Authorities want to remind people that harboring or assisting Ebihara is a felony offense.
