Board of Education Sets 2010-2011 School Calendar
01/06/2010

The USD 480 Board of Education set the 2010-2011 school calendar on Monday at their regularly scheduled board meeting.

There were two different calendars presented to the board by the calendar commitee which was made up of teachers and administrators throughout the district.

Calendar #3 kept the school calendar pretty similar to this year's calendar which includes two weeks off for Christmas Break. Calendar #4 would have changed things up having Christmas Break only last a week and a half and beginning on December 23 for teachers. The calendar commitee and Superintendent Vernon Welch recommended calendar #3.

Everyone on the board agreed except President Dan Diepenbrock as Calendar #3 passed by a 6-1 vote.

The board also approved the consent agenda which included two gifts, two surplus property items, and the waiver of building rental fee for Liberal Volleyball Club for use of the LHS gym for a scrimmage/tournament on January 24. This is for 7th and 8th grade students.

The board also approved the following action items by a 7-0 vote: The Head Start Lunch contract, a partnership agreement with Head Start, a Race to the Top Grant, and certified resignation, certified employment, and Classified Employment/Resignations/Transfers.
