Area Agency On Aging Recognizes Focal Point Centers
01/05/2010

Senior centers from across southwest have been recognized and designated a 2009 Focal Point by the SouthWest Kansas Area Agency On Aging (SWKAAA) according to Dave Geist Executive Director. These centers were honored for the programs and services that were provided October 1, 2008 thru September 30, 2009.

A Focal Point Center is a highly visible facility where anyone can obtain information and access to services for elderly individuals. To a family caregiver and older Kansans, it is a well known, accessible place to turn to for information, services in the community and social opportunities.

To be considered for a Focal Point by SWKAAA a senior center had to meet minimum standards in twelve (12) different program areas. Outreach to the community, center management, supportive services offered by the center, and the center’s involvement in the community were a few of the areas that were reviewed by SWKAAA staff during the yearly on-site visit.

The 2009 Focal Point Centers are:

Seward County Council On Aging, Liberal

Grant County Senior Center, Ulysses

Kearny County Senior Center, Lakin

Ashland Senior Center, Ashland

Dodge City Senior Center, Dodge City

Fowler Senior Center, Fowler

Scott County VIP Center, Scott City

Hamilton County Senior Center, Syracuse

Senior Center of Finney County, Garden City
