A Wichita woman who said she bought a Kansas Lottery raffle ticket "on a whim" claimed the $1 million prize late Thursday in Topeka.Laid-off Wichitan wins raffle's $1 million
Lottery officials said Victoria Mason, who was laid off from Cessna in March, claimed her prize just minutes before the Kansas Lottery office in Topeka closed its doors for the New Year's holiday.
Mason, 50, who is single and has a 19-year-old son, bought the winning ticket at the Bourbon Street Bar & Grill on South Seneca on Oct. 19, the day after ticket sales began.
She said she found out she had a winning ticket Thursday at a Check-a-Ticket machine. She then returned to the bar and looked up the winning numbers on the Kansas Lottery Web site and realized she was the winner.
"I was shaking like a leaf," she said in a news release issued by the Lottery.
Two of the five tickets worth $50,000 were also purchased in south-central Kansas. The other three were bought in the northeast, lottery officials said.
The number for the grand-prize ticket is 030743. The numbers for the $50,000 tickets are 000766, 047728, 081916, 139476 and 139695.
For a complete list of all 506 winning numbers, including the 500 $500 tickets, go to www.kslottery.com.
The $50,000 prizes must be claimed at the Kansas Lottery office in Topeka or Great Bend, either in person or by mail. Because of the holiday, the lottery offices will be closed until 8 a.m. Monday.
Tickets can be checked at any retail location that sold the tickets for the Holiday Millionaire Raffle. The $500 prizes can also be claimed at those retail outlets.
Winners should sign their tickets on the back and keep them in a safe place until they claim their prizes.
The raffle tickets were $20 each and all 150,000 were sold a little more than a month after going on sale Oct. 18.
