Eight Liberal Runners will be competing in the Cross Country Coaches Youth Championships, on Saturday December 1st. This year’s National race is held in Terre Haute, Indiana, at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course which is the site of numerous NCAA Championship meets. All of the runners will be competing for the Brocaw Blazers, a youth team out of the Kansas City Area. The team consists of runners from mostly Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Camryn Slatten will be competing in the girls 13-14 age group. Slatten was the ARMS league champion in cross country this year for West Middle School. Mercy Perez will be competing in the 15-16 girls division. Perez has been a standout runner for the Redskins the last three years. LHS cross country runners Emilio Tovilla, Obed Quintana, Luis Medina, and Samuel Obando will all be competing in the boys 15-16 age group. All four were a part of the Redskins team that placed 5th at state. Marco Espinoza and Angel Viveros are the other two runners who will be competing. Espinoza and Viveros will be competing in the boys 17-18 age group. Also competing for the Brocaw Blazers will be former Liberal runner McKenzie Wright.
