Saints Can Cardinals
12/14/2009

The Saints finish their first semester with a feel good game Saturday night in the Green House. Everyone played including two LHS graduates in a 101-56 win over 4-8 Labette. Jon Tassin equaled a career high with 18 points. Tassin says he likes the makeup of this team. "I think we're deeper than we were last year," the 6'8" sophomore from Pontiac, Michigan said. "Everyone's playing together and playing their roles. We don't have anyone trying to come out and score 20 every night. Each night it's someone different leading in scoring." Sophomore point guard Tony Smith dazzled the crowd with an array of bullet no look passes to the tune of 15 points, 14 assists, and just one turnover. Donte McCarter added 13 and Marcus James added 13 points and six rebounds. Marky Nolen added 11 points and six rebounds. Head coach Bryan Zollinger liked what he saw. "I felt like our guys did a great of staying focused this weekend," the former Saint player said. "When we got leads, we kept playing defense, we kept executing, and we kept playing as a team. Our substitutes came in the game and gave us really good minutes. Everyone that's coming in is sticking with the game plan and doing what they are supposed to do." Liberal's Kevin Livingston scored 7 while former LHS teamate Chris Chaney added 4. The Saints next play in the Jayhawk Shootout January 8 and 9.
