It was fitting that the key play of the game finished with a player crashing to the floor. It was that kind of physical game Saturday night when Labette came to the Green House and defeated the Lady Saints 69-67. It's the second win in Liberal is three years for the Lady Cardinals who improve to 10-2. Rachel Barnes last second shot attempt in a one point game ended with her crashing to the floor. Seward coach Toby Wynn was called for a technical while the Green House crowd demanded a whistle, but the reequests fell on deaf ears. It was a game in which the team picked to win the Jayhawk East built a 29-11 first half lead and led the Lady Saints 37-26 at halftime. Seward head coach Toby Wynn says the Lady Saints made it difficult on themselves. "We dug ourselves a big hole in the first half," Wynn said. "We had to find some way to come back and we finally did. We exerted so much energy. If we could have gotten the lead earlier I think we would have been O.K. but at that point they had adrenaline going and they just made more plays than we did. I told the kids the lesson learned is just don't put yourself in that position again."
The Lady Saints' only lead was 67-65 with 1:12 to go. The Lady Saints are 11-1 and will return to Liberal to practice December 26 before going to Phoenix for games against South Mountain and Mesa.
