Liberal Firefighters Respond to Residential Fire Friday Afternoon

The Liberal Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 816 N New York on Friday afternoon at 3:19 pm.

First arriving units reported light to moderate smoke exiting the eves of the residential building, which is a duplex. All occupants were out of the residence prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. Firefighters entered the building and quickly located the fire. The fire had extended to the exterior of the building, as well. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the rear of the residence and the fire was declared under control at 3:44 pm. No injuries are reported in this incident. Firefighters remained on scene until 5:09 pm extinguishing hot spots and conducting an on-scene investigation. The structure suffered moderate damage. The Seward County Red Cross was contacted and responded to the scene to assist the occupants. The Liberal Fire Department responded to the incident with 15 firefighters, two engines, and a light support vehicle. The Liberal Police Department and Seward County EMS responded to the incident as well. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing at this time.
