Showdown in Green House Highlights December Schedule
12/02/2009

Some of the KJCCC coaches wanted a couple of tuneups before returning from the Christmas break. The coaches voted to move the Jayhawk Shootout from usual first weekend in December spot to January 8 and 9 in Coffeyville. So now Jayhawk West teams play three conference games before Christmas. The way the schedule rotates this year, Seward and Hutchinson meet Wednesday night in the Green House. The Saints (6-3) are picked to win the Jayhawk West while Steve Eck's 9-0 10th ranked Hutchinson tonight at 8 PM. The Blue Dragons are picked second in the Jayhawk West. SCCC head coach Bryan Zollinger says you know what you get from a Steve Eck coached team. "They're always going to play good strong defense," the third year Seward head coach said. "They're going to be a team who's going to emphasize rebounding the basketball. You have to play good transition defense because they like to push the ball and score quickly."

The Lady Saints (8-0) meet the 8-0 25th ranked Lady Dragons in a rematch of last year's Region 6 title. Hutch won the region by two points (53-51) over Seward. SCCC head coach Toby Wynn says Hutch, who averages 84 points a game is an offensive threat. "They're very well coached on the offensive end," Wynn says of HCC coach John Ontjes and his Lady Dragons. "They have a good offensive scheme and when you let them run their offense, they're very hard to defend. You have to take them out of what they do to make them make plays on their own." The women tip off at 6 PM with Saints Shootaround at 5:45 on B107.5 and kscbnews.net. The men tip off at 8 PM on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
