New Political Group Experiences Growth
11/20/2009

The new group would like to focus on common sense and following the Constitution.

Almost 40 people showed up to Ruffinos on Thursday for Liberal's newest political group, who met for a second time.

Crystal Clemens from the County Clerks office made a presentation on 2010 Election Information and offices that will be up for election on a local, state, and national level. She also took questions from the audience.

Ernie Schaffer who will be working on economic development in Liberal was also in attendance and briefly discussed it and requested input at any time from the community.

The group had 25 people at their first meeting at Epic last month, and that number increased to 37 for Thursday's meeting. School board member Reid Petty who helped start the group with County Commissioner Jim Rice said he was pleased with the turnout.

"I thought maybe for the second meeting and with other things going on around town such as the movie theatre re- opening that our crowd may go down, but to see it go up to almost 40 is exciting," Petty said.

Rice said the group will take December off, before having its third meeting in January. Rice also requested that the group come prepared to the next meeting with name ideas. The next meeting is scheduled for January 14, 2010.
