Atchinson Kansas To Premiere "Amelia"
10/20/2009

The birthplace of Amelia Earhart is hoping

a movie opening Friday about the aviator will renew interest in her

hometown.

To help that effort, makers of the new movie, "Amelia," have

donated costumes and other mementos to the Amelia Earhart

Birthplace Museum. The items will go on display Friday.

Earhart was born in Atchison on July 24, 1897.

The Kansas City Star reports that the gifts presented to last

Friday to the owners of the museum include a brown leather bomber

jacket, a white jumpsuit, and a red blouse and ivory slacks that

star Hillary Swank wore in the movie.

The costumes and props will join other Earhart memorabilia

already displayed at the museum, which officials say attracts

20,000 to 30,000 visitors a year.
