Susan Nguyen Competed for Ninth at State Tennis
10/19/2009

Susan Nguyen

Susan Nguyen proves to be one of the top ten tennis players in 5A Girls’ State Tennis. Susan Nguyen competed Friday and Saturday in the State Girls’ Tennis Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. She went 2-3 on the day earning a 10th Place Medal. After receiving a 1st –round bye, she lost to Samantha Aleman from Gardner Edgerton 6-1,6-0. Nguyen bounced back to defeat Laurel Michel from Salina Central 9-3. Avenging an earlier loss to Salina Central’s Jordan Brown, Nguyen defeated Brown in a convincing 9-3 match. Competing for 9th Place, Nguyen found herself matched against the #1 player from Hutchinson, Shayla Roath. Battling from a 1-4 deficit, Nguyen was serving at 5-6 to tie the match, but Roath prevailed winning 9-5. Susan Nguyen took home the 10th Place medal and put Liberal High School back on the tennis map. Susan’s game has improved to the point she can compete with any girl in the state. Her success has given Susan an added confidence that will sustain her for another run at the State title next year. We are all very proud of her accomplishments.
