Texhoma defeats Okarche, advance to Oklahoma State Finals

The Texhoma RedDevils came up short in overtime at the fairgrounds to take second in the Oklahoma State Boys Class A basketball tournament. The youthful Preston Pirates, featuring just two seniors, came from behind late in Saturday’s championship game and then controlled overtime to beat Texhoma 75-71 at State Fair Arena. It was the second consecutive overtime game for Texhoma, who needed overtime to beat Okarche to advance to the championship game. For the tournament’s first two days, every time Texhoma needed a big shot, it turned to J.D. Pugh.

Against Preston, Pugh had plenty of help.

Pugh provided the penetration and Matt Freeman and Dereck Nye the outside shooting and the combination helped Texhoma come back from what had been a deficit of as many as nine.

Pugh tied Prestons Kalian Watkins’ game high with 21 while Nye added 18 and Freeman 17. Trey Freeman had 11.
