Liberal City Commission Meets, Receives Dividend Check
05/23/2012

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers. During the Items From Groups portion of the meeting, the City received a dividend Check from Employers Mutual, through Al Shank Insurance, in the amount of $29,479. In the past 5 years the City has received a total of around $274,000 from Employers Mutual as a result of keeping Workers Compensation claims down. Among the action items on the agenda, the Commission was to consider the condemnation a a property at 1111 S. Calhoun, but took no action as the owner of the structure has been working on the property, and has met requirements set forth by the Code Enforcement Department. Work is to continue on the stucture with direction given by the Building Inspection Department. Another property, this one at 635 1/2 S. Pennsylvania was condemned by the Commission. This structure, which was before the Commission in April of 2011, is being worked on, and the owner, Perry Heckle, has been given 30 days to continue work, and work with the Code Enforcement Department to also bring it up to code. If adequate progress is being made, the Commission could extend the 30 days given Mr. Heckle. The Commission als abated several vehicles throughout the City, and purchased a utility easement from the Liberal Country Club in the amount of $39,000.00, and replaced a mower at the Liberal Cemetery. The Next meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for June 12, 2012.
