Deerfield Considers 4-Day School Week
09/04/2009

State budget cuts have a Western Kansas school district scrambling to cut costs in the classroom.

Deerfield schools are considering a move to a four-day school week. They estimate they'll save about half of what the district has already lost in budget cuts.

A special committee will travel to four area districts that have a similar system to see how well it works and report to the school board. Deerfield superintendent, Jon Ansley says the school is running out of options.

"We're looking at what other ways we can save money, and this is one that appears to have some good possibilities. We've cut a lot of the extras out of our budget. We're really kind of down to bare bones at this point."

The school board will make a decision in October. If they approve the shortened week, it will take effect in August of next year.
