Moscow’s Moore Saves Day for Saints

KSCB News - April 21, 2010 12:00 am

Moscow’s Jace Moore laced a double down the left field line to score Daniel Bruce from first and give the Saints an 8-7 walk off win in the bottom of the seventh Tuesday afternoon at Brent Gould Field. Moore’s seventh at bat of the season gave the Saints a one run win in a game they trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the fifth. Moore says he was trying to survive so his team could advance. “I got down 1-2 and we had one out in the inning so I was just going to try to battle and get it back to the top of the order with Kelby (Tomlinson) and hope we could win the game that way,” the Moscow freshman said. “It was a curve ball and I just stayed on it and went the other way and it worked out.” The Saints won the second game handily building an 8-0 lead and winning 11-4. Seward leads the Jayhawk West with a 21-7 record. In game one, Pratt led by four until the Saints scored five in the fifth against the struggling Pratt bullpen. Seward scored five runs on two hits while Pratt walked three and beaned one. Seward scored the lead run to lead 7-6 on a wild pitch. But the Beavers tied the game in the seventh on an unearned run. Daniel Bruce singled with one out before Moore’s walk off double. Pratt out hit Seward 13-10. Luke Campbell was 3-3 with two RBI’s. Quay Grant pitched two innings without allowing an earned run for the win.

In game two, Seward built an 8-0 lead after four and won 11-4. Michael Alger pitched seven and one-third of an inning striking out six for the win. Ty Jacobs was 4-5 with five RBI’s and drove home 10 runs in the series. Josh Dawson was 3-5 and 5-9 on the day. Seward improves to 25-22 overall and 21-7 in the Jayhawk West. Pratt falls to 14-29 overall and 2-22 in the conference. Seward hosts 36-9 Lamar Wednesday at 2 PM. The Saints have the weekend off as 18-6 Butler goes to 17-7 Garden City for a key Jayhawk West series. Seward returns to conference play May 1 and 2 in Colby. That will also mark the next broadcast of SCCC baseball on Talkradio 1270.
