Thirteen year old Maddux Mills of Liberal finished second in the Professional Golf Association Drive, Chip, and Putt Regional competition last weekend in Plano, Texas. Mills placed second in drive, third in chipping, and second in putting, to be the only person in the group to place in each event. Dongsoo Lee, of Houston, Texas won the 12-13 year old age group and will represent the Southern Region in the National Competition at the 2015 Masters in Augusta, Georgia.

The Regional , one of ten regionals held in the country, was the third leg in the Masters Dive , Chip, and Putt challenge. Mills placed first in a the first qualifying tournament in Oklahoma City in early summer, and in August finished second in the sub-regional round in Tulsa to advance to the Regional final. Over a hundred qualifying locations hosted the first round with three players qualifying to the sub – regionals. The top two advanced to the regionals with only the winner advancing to next years masters.

Mills, a seventh grader from West Junior High, first heard of the competition while attending the Masters Golf Tourney this past spring with his father. This is the second year of the nationwide competition. Each participant was allowed three drives, three chips, and three putts and graded in each category with the best advancing.
