Brock Kappelmann - September 10, 2019 6:29 am

SRMS Cross Country did well at our first meet. All runners ran hard and put their best out there, determined to continue to grow as athletes.

Amelia Alacron and Ariana Cerda were our only 7th grade girls and both ran in 7:36 and 7:47 respectfully, they were disappointed to be our only two but are excited for next week as more girls continue to join us.

Our 7th grade boys are determined to learn from their experience; one did not finish due to muscle cramps as the others continued to run a mile in the time frame of 6:20 to 8:58. Israel Torres missed a medal by less than a second and placing 11th out of 70 runners. As a team these boys placed 7th. Sergio Aguilar is determined to work harder in practice and improve his time from 8:07

Daniella Cerda led the way during the 8th grade girls 2 mile and finished first with a time of 14:13, with the second runner coming in a minute and a half later! Avery Cooper has a plan on what she wants to work on in practice to get better. These girls are also excited as their team grows this week with more girls joining.

8th grade boys finished in 4th place as a team lead by Michael Byrd who showed a great race as he continued to pass runners and finished strong for second with a time of 12:38 after in a neck to neck race for first. The rest of the team worked hard, often running close together to push each other to give their best!

We have several runners who are running cross country for the first time and are already discussing how to improve. They have experienced a truly competitive race and are understanding the importance of stretching and staying hydrated. Thank you to all who came out to help and to cheer the runners on.
