Meade County Crash Kills Two Plains Residents

A Meade County crash killed two Plains residents Thursday evening. Thirty-three year old Patricia Delatorre and 16 year old Valerie Yvette Portillo were killed in the rollover just west of Meade on Highway 54. The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m.

Patricia Delatorre was driving a Tahoe west on 54 along with two non contact vehicles both in the slow lane. As her vehicle attempted to pass both non contact vehicles, the passing lane ended and her Tahoe went into the eastbound ditch and overturned. Patricia Delatorre was taken to Meade District Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:19 pm and Valerie Yvette Portillo was taken to Meade District Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:02. Twelve year old Natalie Portillo, six year old Jackie Delatorre, and four year old Ramon Hernandez-Delatorre were injured and taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. Natalie and Jackie were transported to Via Christi in Wichita.
