LPN Program At SCCC/ATS Re-accredited For 5 Years

KSCB News - January 20, 2011 3:27 pm

The Licensed practical Nursing program at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School has been re-accredited for five more years. The program opened in 1978 with 20 students but was increased to 30 students the following year.
In seeking re-approval, the college submitted documentation regarding the college, the program and its facilities, and the qualification of the administrator and faculty, as well as adequate support staff. The program also submitted information and tables about the curriculum, clinical resources, and written student policies. While here, the three site visitors from the Kansas State Board of Nursing visited with administrators, general education faculty, students, community members and nurses at Southwest Medical Center.
Strengths include the faculty, library, simulation laboratory experiences, documentation of faculty meetings and strong support of the college, clinical sites and community.
The SCCC/ATS Practical Nursing program is the only program in the state of Kansas that has had a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council for Licensure Exam for the past five years. The overall pass rate on the NCLEX-PN in the history of the program is 99 percent.
Faculty members are Nancy Bansemer, Sandy Brisendine, Diane Miller, Tracey Gardner, Laurel Lahita, Sandy Wolfram, and Veda King.
