Longtime Liberal Physician Passes Away

Ira Ross Grimes, MD, 84, Liberal, KS, died Sunday, January 1, 2012,
at Wheatridge Park Care Center, Liberal, KS.

He was born February 13, 1927 Fairview, OK, the son of
Ira W. & Sallie E. Ross Grimes.

Ross graduated Fairview High School, Fairview, OK in 1944.
He entered the US Navy, served as a Corpsman during World War II.
Upon his discharge, he entered Phillips University, Enid, OK and received
his B.S. degree in 1950. On June 13, 1953, he married Donna C. Cannon at Oklahoma City, OK. He received his Medical Degree from the
Oklahoma Medical School, Oklahoma City, OK in 1954, and served his
internship and residency at Oklahoma Medical Center.

In July 1960 he moved to Liberal, where he continued his medical
practice, specializing in general & chest surgery, he retired
December 31, 1996.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Liberal,
American College of Surgeons and the American College of
Chest Physicians.

Ross enjoyed his horses, hunting and his bird dogs, flying and
photography.

Ross is survived by his wife Donna Grimes; son, James Grimes and his wife Lynn, Seminole, OK; three daughters,
Denise Pease and husband Mark, Houston, TX;
Gail Grimes, Norman, OK; Jackie Grimes, Eugene, OR;
ten grandchildren, Derek & Aaron Rose Batton, Keenan Murray, C. J. Grimes, Jared Grimes, Tanner Grimes, Wyatt Pease, Stacy Lynn Grimes,
Chase & Justin Kearney; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in
death by his parents, daughter Rose Mary Grimes.

Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the
First United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Randall officiating.

There will be a private burial in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the
American Heart Association in care of the mortuary.
