Liberal City Commission Set To Lower Mill Levy

KSCB News - August 10, 2011 8:32 am

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda was a Public Hearing on the 2012 Budget. The Commission moved to a second reading Ordinance 4396 Levying Tax Revenues for Budget Year 2012 in Excess of Limitation. With valuations up in Seward County, the City of Liberal was able to lower the mill levy. Commissioners also directed staff to pursue the E-Community Application which would assist small businesses with loans to help get started. The City would sell tax credits to fund the program, and it would come at no cost to the City. The City Commission also approved the bid of Renner Sports Surfaces of Denver Colorado to reconstruct the existing four tennis courts in Bluebonnet Park and construct 2 additional courts in the same area. Bid amount approved was $275,684.50 with a total project cost of $320,000.00. The City is currently also applying for grants with the U.S. Tennis Association to help pay for the project. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission is scheduled for August 23, 2011.
