Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves RHID

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening for their regular meeting at 5:30pm.

Among the items on the agenda, after a Public Hearing, the Commission approved an RHID for A&V Duplexes Phase 2 Project. This, when completed will add 3 duplexes and 2 triplexes for a total of 12 units.

Commissioners also accepted a grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation in the amount of $150,000. This grant will contribute funds to the development of 13 to 27 Moderate Income houses in Southeast Liberal.

The City Commission also approved using donated funds from Milk Source to purchase a new ice maker for the Police Department, approved utilizing $40,000 from the Liberal Wide City Wide Program of the 1 cent sales tax to aid in storm damage clean up. These funds could be replenished pending the approval of reimbursement from FEMA.

The Commissioners approved the final plat for a Hotel addition which had to be brought back to the Commission due to a clerical error, approved the Reconstruction of the T-Hangar Taxilines, T-Hangar Drainage Improvements and entered into an engineering agreement and allocated funding for these projects at the airport, and approved the repair and restoration of the City’s Volvo front end loader in an amount not to exceed $50,000 with Berry Tractor.

Two board appointments were made at the meeting. Taylor Harden was appointed to the JEDC Board for a 3 year term, and Judy Chance was reappointed to the Liberal Memorial Library Board. She had previously finished out an unexpired term of a former board member.

The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be Tuesday, February 14th.
