The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening and after recognizing several employees with their 10 and 25 year Service Awards,  approved the Housing and Economic Development Programs for 2018. Included in the Housing programs are the New Construction Single Family Incentive, the First Time Home Buyer Program, the Safe at Home Program, the Senior Housing Programs, the Paint the Town Program, the Self Help Housing, and Program Expenses.

Economic Programs include the Industrial Park Incentive, Facade Improvement, Beautification, Marketing, and New Construction Multi-Family Housing Incentive Programs. Added for next year will be the SkyWest Marketing, and Site Certification Programs.

The Commission approved up to $136,000 for renovations to the airport terminal to get it ready for when SkyWest begins service to Liberal with a 50 passenger plane in February. Knudsen Enterprises of Liberal is the contractor on the project.

Commissioners approved the deeding back of a small strip of land, 20 feet, to the Hibbs family, reapproved the abatement of a mobile home at 2500 N. Western, this time adding the legal description in the paperwork and approved submersible pumps for the Waste Water Department.

City Commissioners also approved the purchase of 13 vehicles, repairs to others already in the fleet, and a tool compartment for the Building Maintenance Departments vehicle. Vehicles purchased will come from Chrysler Corner of Liberal with a year end bid price of $279,737. Some of the vehicles being replaced were over 20-25 years old.

The final plat of the Prairie Breeze addition to the City was approved at Tuesday’s meeting.

The Commission also rescheduled the first meeting in January to the 8th to coincide with State law and the swearing in of the new Commissioners.
