Liberal City Commission Meets, Approve Airport Improvements

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the commission recognized Liberal High School student Nancy Varela for being a recipient of the National Alexander Hamilton Society award for 2014. Varela and her mother were in attendance for the special recognition. The Commissioners also rezoned a parcel of property along the old Highway 54 from Commercial to single Family Residence. This property falls within the 3 mile radius of Liberal and falls under the City’s jurisdiction. Commissioners also approved the purchase of 4 sets protective fire gear for the Liberal Fire Department in the amount of $5,877.76. LFD reports they are now fully staffed. Also on the agenda, The Commission approved the low bid of Dondlinger & Sons Construction for Airport Taxiway A and connecting Taxiway C, approved the Supplemental Agreement Number 1 with H.W Lochner, Inc. for construction services, and also authorized the Mayor to execute the FAA Grant Application and submit the appilcation to the FAA. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for July 22nd with the Budget meeting scheduled for July 23rd.
