The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm at the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda the City Commission approved EMC Insurance providers through Al Shank Insurance of Liberal to provide the Property and Liability Insurance for the City in the amount of the premium of $439,962. This is a savings to the City of Liberal of about $65,000 over last year. The Commission also approved Resolution 2075 which allows a Mixed Martial Arts Competition sponsored by Rine Enterprises LLC, approved the sale of 3 city lots to Ron Warren Construction, appointed Lidia Gray to the Parks and Rec board and Pam McElvain to the Convention and Visitors Board, awarded the Chip Seal bid to B $ H Paving of Scott City and approved the purchase of a diesel mower for the Waste Water Treatment plant from Keating Tractor of Liberal in the amount of $11,410.00. The City Commission also approved a K-9 unit for the Liberal Police Department. The approval includes the purchase of a Drug Dog, training for the dog and the officer who will be handling the dog, a K-9 vehicle and the equipment to set up the car. The total amount to set up the Unit is $54,969.00 with the funds to come from the Drug Tax, Drug Forfeiture, Police Drug Dog Fund, and the Crime Pevention Fund of the 1 cent sales tax. Currently the Liberal Police Department is utilizing a Drug Dog from Beaver on an as needed basis. This would put a Drug Dog in Liberal full time. The Liberal City Commission will next meet on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.
