Liberal City Commission Meets

KSCB News - June 28, 2011 10:19 pm

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the Commission approved the acquisition of 4 lots in the MC Wheeler of the City of Liberal. The lots were purchased for the Self-Help Housing Program and were purchased from the Calvary Mennonite Church, in the amount of $28,000.00. The lots will be sold back to the participants at $9,000.00 per lot. The Commission also approved entering into a contract with Pitney-Bowes for a Postage Machine lease. The cost of the new lease is $1,536.00 per quarter, and is a savings of $7,260.00 over the 5 year lease compared to the previous lease agreement. The City Commission also heard an update on two grants that the Liberal Police Department had applied for. Both were Edward Byrne Memorial Grants and both were declined. A third grant, the COPS Grant is still pending and will be announced in September. In items from Commissioners, Commissioner Carlile informed the Commission that he had spoke with Fire Chief Kelly Kirk, and County Fire Chief Mike Rice, and due to safety concerns, the Public display of fireworks for the 4th of July had been cancelled. A make up date is being looked at, but a lot depends on rain and moisture. An official Press Release will be issued on this matter. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for July 12th.
