Liberal City Commission Approves Napolis to Occupy the Grier House

KSCB News - May 12, 2009 12:00 am

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night for a regularly scheduled meeting. The main action item of interest was which restaurant would be approved to rent out the Grier House which is also known at ‘The Depot.’ After some discussion the commission voted 3-1 to approve Napolis which is now owned by Liberal’s Victoria Carlile to occupy the Grier House. Bob Carlile abstained from voting, while Joe Denoyer voted against. Other restaurants considered were El Camino’s out of Garden City, and Old Cabin Steakhouse. Denoyer’s reason was that he had polled people leading up to the meeting and 95% of the people he polled said they’d prefer a steakhouse which was in the running. Victoria Carlile’s bid to rent the building includes a two year agreement that will begin no later then July 1 of this year. Vargas was the last restaurant to rent ‘The Depot’ before they moved to their new current location on 15th street. In other action the board approved the purchase of breathing apparatus equipment for the waste water treatment plant, and rescinded Resolution 2047 which dealt with the condemnation of aproperty at 635 S. Pennsylvannia. This property has since burned to the ground. The City of Liberal was also presented an insurance premium dividend check from Employers Mutual through Al Shank Insurance for over $71,000.00. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission is scheduled for May 26th, with a joint City/County meeting set for May 21st, at 6:00pm at the Rock Island Depot.
