LHS Soccer Looks for Break Through Season

KSCB News - September 3, 2015 7:23 am

Liberal has made the final four of 5A state soccer in 10 of the past 13 years. A remarkable achievement to be sure. But two of the three years Liberal has missed KSHSAA premiere event have come during the past two seasons when the Redskins were knocked short of the final four. Last year a 1-0 loss to Bishop Carroll in the second round at Redskin Field ended what was a very good 14-3 season which included a WAC title. Lori Navarro, an LHS graduate, continues to be the program’s only head coach. She is a dizzying 228-71-13 entering year number 18 as head coach.

Key Redskin players include Sr. CMF Israel Arroyo, Jr. F Eliel Gonzalez (22 goals as So.), Jr. D Josh Martinez, Jr. F Brian Alvarez, Fr. F Mike Fonseca, Fr. Goalie Ramon Hernandez, Sr. D Alejandro Gutierrez (moves from offense), and So. MF Elmer Rivera.

The Redskins were featured during Sportsguys Monday morning. The show airs weekday mornings between 7:37-9 on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Liberal hosts Great Bend tonight at about 5:45 at Redskin Field.
