LHS Names Three New Head Coaches

Head Bowling Coach

Andrew Johnson will be the new coach for the Liberal High School Bowling team starting the 2016 campaign. Andrew Johnson will be the new coach for the upcoming season. Coach Johnson is a new teacher for USD 480 however very familiar to Liberal as he is a 2005 LHS graduate

.

Coach Johnson graduated from Redford University in Virginia and competed in bowling while he attending Redford University. Throughout his collegiate career he placed in the top five in bowling tournaments in multiple occasions.

Coach Johnson is a music teacher at Sunflower Intermediate School.

New Girls Soccer Coach

Carlos Ruiz

Head Girls Soccer Coach Carlos Ruiz is the new Head Girls Soccer Coach for the 2016 season. Coach Ruiz is replacing the former Head Coach, Saul Hernandez, who was named the Head Coach in May and has since resigned from USD 480. Coach Ruiz is no stranger to LHS or the soccer field as he

is also a LHS graduate. He played soccer all four years in high school and was part of the 2008 state 3rd place team his senior year. He was also on the Boys Soccer coaching staff

up team, 2011 State Championship team and the 2012 State Runner up team. Coach Ruiz currently works in the Technology Department for USD 480 and

continues to serve as an Assistant Boys Soccer Coach at LHS.

New Girls Swim Coach at LHS

Mary Stephenson

Head Girls Swim Coach

Mrs Mary Stephenson will be taking over the Redskin Swimming program for the 2016 season.Coach Stephenson, a McPherson native, was a three sport athlete for the Bullpups in basketball, swimming, and track. While in high school she specialized in the 200m Individual Medley,

100m Butterfly, and relays helping the Bullpups become a power in the late 90s. In addition to her experience in swimming, Mary has spent the last decade in the classroom as well as coordinating efforts for Pony Baseball tournaments in Southern California. In addition to coaching swimming, Mary will be teaching first grade at Garfield Elementary.

“I am truly excited to be a part of the great athletic tradition of Liberal High School and the community and can’t wait to meet the girls and get started. Our focus will be on building a class team with unity and a foundation for the

program to build on for years to come.”
