Lady Saint Upset Bid Falls Short

Seward’s upset bid fell just short Friday night in Wichita. Jayhawk East Champ Cowley (25-7) beat Seward (21-11) 55-51 Friday night at Koch Arena at Wichita State. Seward was unable to fight through 27 turnovers and 18 Cowley offensive rebounds. Maddie Yanke scored 11 to lead Seward while Autumn Miller added 10. Seward held Cowley to 33 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers. Seward led the region in field goal percentage defense this year. Seward led early 14-7 but trailed 22-20 at halftime. The Lady Tigers built a 42-35 lead with 7:30 to go before Seward would tie the game at 49 with 1:30 to go. Despite the loss, head coach Toby Wynn said during KSCB’s postgame that he was proud of his team.
