Lady Red Rolls in First Round Win

Brock Kappelmann - March 1, 2018 7:19 am

The score was the same.  When Liberal traveled to Great Bend to play the Lady Panthers on February 17, LHS won 52-26.  Wednesday night in the first round of 5A sub state, the Lady Redskins rolled to a 52-26 win in the Big House.

This was never a close game.  The Lady Skins led 18-7 after one quarter and led 28-10 before a 28-13 halftime lead.  LHS led 41-15 after three quarters and led 50-22 in the fourth.

The Lady Redskins only made 1-10 from three point range but were 19-25 at the foul line while the Lady Panthers were 3-20 from three and 5-8 at the foul line.  Machia Mullens had 17 points to lead the Lady Red.  Ali Lucero and Katie Horyna had nine a piece.  Aubrey Warden and Audrey Gilmore had six a piece.

Liberal has won four in a row over Great Bend and is 20-1 while Great Bend finishes 3-18.  Liberal hosts 11-9 Goddard Saturday night at 6 for the right to play in state. Goddard beat Valley Center 45-33 in Goddard.

Local businesses have stepped up again for Saturday night’s final home game.  The game is in the Big House and admission will again be free for all USD 480 students who are in the gym by 5:45.  In addition, 125 adult tickets will be given away.  The game airs on 1270 and with Redskin Pregame at 5:45.
