Kansas Wheat Breaks Dormancy

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service
says the winter wheat crop is beginning to break dormancy.
In a report issued Monday, the agency says about 4 percent of
the crop has broken dormancy, mostly in the southwest and
south-central regions.
More than half of the wheat – about 53 percent – is in good to
excellent condition. About 35 percent was rated fair, and 12
percent was rated in poor to very poor condition.
Topsoil moisture levels show 96 percent of the state with
adequate to surplus moisture.
