Head On Crash Causes Two Fatalities in Seward County

A head on collision caused two fatalities north of Liberal Sunday. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a vehicle was headed south on Highway 83 15 miles north of Liberal. The driver 31 year old Travis Ryan Burgess of Turpin went left of center into the northbound lane. A vehicle headed north swerved into the southbound lane in an avoidance maneuver. The southbound vehicle then swerved back into the southbound lane hitting the northbound car head on. The driver of the northbound car 32 year old Gabriela Cano of Hooker lost her life after this crash and was pronounced dead at 4:15. Fourteen year old Evelin Cano of Hooker and 10 year old Nayeli Cano of Hooker were injured passengers and were taken to Southwest Medical Center. Evelin Cano also lost her life as a result of this crash and was pronounced dead at 4:28. Burgess was also taken to Southwest Medical Center with injuries. The crash happened at about 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
