Hays Uses Second Half Surge to Hammer Redskins

Liberal head coach Drew Gruver questioned his teams’ effort and conditioning after a second half collapse. Hays beat Liberal 68-50 in the WAC opener for both teams Friday night in the Big House. The Redskins actually led 27-22 late in the second half and 27-24 at halftime before Hays outscored LHS 24-6 in the third quarter.

Hays, coming off back to back losing seasons, is 7-0 buoyed by 6’6" sophomore Brady Werth who scored 20 points and was 8-11 at the free throw line. Hays was 17-25 at the foul line while Liberal was 4-10.

Liberal falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the WAC. Liberal hosts 5-2 Garden City Tuesday night at about 7:45 in the Big House. The game airs on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
