The Hays Larks beat the Liberal Bee Jays 13-6 Thursday night at Larks Park in Hays in a sloppy three hour game. Liberal used five pitchers and walked seven and Hays had two errors as all six of Liberal’s runs were unearned.

BJ starter Austin King was lifted after the first inning. Brent Cleland pitched 1.1 innings and allowed five runs, Zach Thompson went 2.2 innings and allowed two runs, Dustin Luna pitched two innings and allowed four runs, and Ryan Scott tossed one inning and allowed two runs. It was a rough night for the BJ bullpen.

Hays scored five in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth to lead 7-0. Liberal rallied in the sixth thanks to an error. An error allowed the Bee Jays to score and opened up the door for four more runs. Alec Isaac laced a two RBI double to the wall in right center. Brady Cox singled home two more runs. But the Larks responded in the bottom of the sixth scored three to lead 10-5. Hays added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Hays out-hit the Bee Jays 19-14. Brady Cox was 5-5 in the loss. Alec Isaac was 3-5. Zach Reding and Bryan Haberstroh were both 2-4.

Liberal is 6-4 and 2-4 in the Jayhawk League while Hays is 9-1 and 6-1 in league. Liberal hosts El Dorado Friday night at 7 on 1270 and kscbnews.net. Bisteca is the buyout sponsor.

Wellington beat Derby 2-1 last night in Wellington.
