Guymon Man Arrested After Fatal Tyrone Wreck

The driver of the minivan involved in a rollover accident in Tyrone that killed one of the passengers has been arrested in connection with the accident.

Fidelino Castro, 28, of Guymon, was driving a gray minivan on Highway 54 a mile west of Tyrone June 14 when the right rear tire blew, causing the vehicle to roll, coming to rest on its wheels in a ditch.

One of the three passengers, 21-year-old Juan Gutierrez of Guymon, died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Castro was taken to Memorial Hospital of Texas County and treated and released.

Another passenger, Carlos Morales, 25, was taken to Southwest Medical Center and later transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in critical condition.

The third passenger, Orlando Morales, 33, was also treated and released from Southwest Medical Center.

According to an Affidavit of Probable Cause, Castro did not have a valid driver�??s license and the vehicle�??s tires were unsafe.

Castro is in the Texas County Jail charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver�??s license, causing an accident resulting in personal injury to another person while operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver�??s license, causing an accident resulting in great bodily injury to another person while operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver�??s license, causing an accident resulting in death to another person while operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver�??s license, and operating a vehicle with one or more tires with a tread depth of less than 2/32 of an inch.

In the affidavit Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Brown said he observed the wires were exposed on the right rear tire that blew.

�??The van traveled off the right side of the roadway and rolled two complete times coming to rest on its wheels,�?� Brown said in the report. �??Two of the four occupants were ejected.�?�

The three passengers were taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, where Gutierrez was pronounced dead from head and chest injuries. Carlos Morales was transported to Wichita, Kan. Orlando Morales was released.

Trooper Grant Arnold transported Castro to Memorial Hospital of Texas County, where he submitted to a blood draw. Brown later arrested Castro at the hospital and took him to the county jail.
